After 25 years in pastoral ministry, Dr. Kevin Wilson never imagined how profoundly God would reshape his understanding of life in Jesus.

Kevin has faithfully served in a variety of ministry roles: as a campus minister, church planter, missionary, and local church pastor. In 2013, he earned his Doctorate of Ministry from Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary, grounding his leadership in both deep theological insight and practical, hands-on ministry. Over the years, he devoted his life to helping others follow Jesus and build spiritually healthy communities.

Then life took an unexpected and painful turn. After walking through a divorce, Kevin found himself in unfamiliar emotional and spiritual terrain. But it was in that wilderness that God met him in a new and transformative way. “God put me in a place where He got my attention,” Kevin says. “My core values changed. I realized the Gospel was more relational than cerebral. More about healing and wholeness than information mastery.”

In that place of brokenness, Kevin discovered a deeper truth: the most beautiful and spiritually mature people were often those who had suffered -- and brought their suffering to God. “I saw a clear connection between suffering and spiritual maturity,” he reflects. “So I began to ask: why not build 'Good News' proclamation and demonstration, evangelism and discipleship around meeting people in their pain and redeeming it?”

That question became the foundation of a new calling. From it, Desert Tree was born, a ministry committed to holistic discipleship that honors the emotional, mental, and spiritual journey. Kevin explains, "I believe God is inviting the Church to embrace a fuller model of discipleship, one that assumes suffering is part of the human experience and treats it as sacred ground for transformation.”

The image that God gave Kevin was the story of Elijah, weary and despairing under a desert tree. In Elijah’s lowest moment, God didn’t rebuke him -- He met him with nourishment, rest, and presence. God reminded Elijah that he was not alone, that his story wasn’t over, and that He still had a purpose for him. He gave him strength for the journey ahead.

Today, Kevin leads Desert Tree with a shepherd’s heart, a coach’s wisdom, and, like Jacob, a limp from wrestling with God. But he also has a renewed mission: to walk with people in their own story, train those who are hungry to learn, and help them encounter Jesus in the midst of it.

This is the heartbeat of Desert Tree: to walk alongside people not with quick fixes or shallow answers, but with deep spiritual support, meaningful accountability, and practical tools for lasting growth.
